Congratulations on your journey to better health my friends! Although I don't eat paleo, I do consider myself a pretty healthy eater, and as a busy mom who loves to cook, (and successfully cooks 4 nights a week) I feel I have a little advice to offer in this area. Here are a few of my tips:
1.Clean out your fridge before you make a weekly food menu. I clean my fridge out on Sunday morning. This allows me to see what I have in produce and meat so I can plan some meals with what I already have, and I don't waste food. 2. Make a weekly food menu. I do this right after I clean out my fridge. I work late 2 nights a week so Tuesdays are "crock pot" night and my husband cooks on Wednesdays. Every other night is filled with after school practices and activities, so meals are simple on those nights as well. (stir fry, fish ) 3. After grocery shopping, I try to clean and chop my meat for the week. I also pack lunches for my girls (have you seen what kids are eating at school now?!! Don't get me started on that one), so prepping small bags of carrots , broccoli and apples gives my family easy access to healthy foods. A side note: don't think your kids won't eat food like this. If you don't have the junk in your house, you'll be surprised what the monkeys will eat when they're hungry! This all may seem time consuming but it really isn't once you make it a part of your weekly routine. A few hours on the weekend saves me a lot of headaches during the week. 4. I also (don't laugh) write my grocery list in sections (produce, meat, dairy, frozen, etc). This makes shopping quick and easy. 5.Last but not least: HAVE YOUR FAMILY HELP YOU! My husband and oldest daughter go grocery shopping for me and help me prep food. I don't understand why busy working moms continue to do most of the cooking and housework like they're 50's homemakers when they're working just as many hours as everyone else! Most of us have families that are happy to help, and getting the whole family involved in the process of preparing the week's meals is important.
Anyway, a few of my suggestions. Good luck Tanya! I know you will be successful!
